Members of the Belfast WIMPS Crew wanted to find out more about the role of the Lord Mayor of Belfast and how he feels about certain issues relevant to young people in Northern Ireland.

The Lord Mayor, Niall Ó Donnghaile, spoke to Niamh Fisher from Belfast WIMPS crew in Belfast City Hall. He talks about his role and responsibilities of being Lord Mayor,  the riots this summer, and whether – because of his age – he he is equipped to carry off the responsibilities of the job.

WIMPS stands for Where Is My Public Servant? It is a project run by and for young people. It started in 2004 with an idea, “How do we make politics more relevant to young people?” One way of doing this is to remind politicians that they work for us – the citizens. We have created wimps.tv as a space for young people to discuss and debate issues. We also want to do more – to get organised, to campaign and to bring our views directly to politicians and others, and to influence the decisions that affect our lives.
