North American Tea Championship 2014: Jungpana Proclaimed Champions Of The Darjeeling Category

Jungpana wins the North American tea championship Darjeeling fall category again in 2014. The North American Tea Championship (NATC) named the 22 best, premium hot teas from the fall 2013 harvest during its Hot Tea evaluation for Fall Tea category. NATC is an independent event, judged by professional and renowned people, who assessed premium teas from around the globe that are sold in North America.

Stiff Competition and its Evaluation:

NATC remains a place where traditional tea standards and innovative non-traditional tea concepts is judged through a common methodology. For two days in the end of February, five judges well renowned for their tea-tasting skills evaluated nearly 200 premium loose-leaf teas for the North American Tea Championship in the Hot Tea Class-fall harvested teas.

NATC Cupping Coordinator Mo Sardella mentions,” As the tea industry continues to grow and evolve, so does the quality and diversity of the teas that find their way to the NATC judges’ table.” Judges evaluated every submission articulately including leaf appearance, flavor, body, color, aroma, clarity, mouth feel and balance. An overall numerical value on a 100-point scale was then calculated based on the ratings of each characteristic, and winning teas were determined by rank.
