Mitt Romney

Romney’s Plan To Private FEMA

Many people who want to vote for Mitt Romney claim that high taxes is one of the major reasons they would be voting against President Obama and for Romney. They say that they don’t want to pay taxes and will, therefore, vote for Mitt who has promised low to no taxes.

This same Mitt Romney has also promised to privatize everything government does that he can lay his hands on, as has been the policy of his political party, the Republican Party. In the news right now, because of Hurrican Sandy and the devastation it has wrought,  is his plan to privatize FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency. During a Republican presidential primary debate, Romney had said that the best thing to do was to leave disaster management to the states affected, or to, better still privatize it. He had called the fact that the Federal government does it immoral. How about that? It’s immoral that a government of the people should help its citizens who have been befallen by a natural disaster!

Assuming that Romney had had his way and privatized FEMA before Sandy hit, what would be the fate of Sandy’s victims who are behind on their emergency fees? I’ll tell you what their fate will be. There fate will be the same fate that has started befalling some residents in certain parts of the country who don’t pay their fire levy and have their private fire departments supervise the burning down of their homes when they have a fire emergency.

Anyway, after FEMA and the Fire department are privatized, what next? The Police department? The Military? Our roads and other infrastructure like bridges, airport, sea ports, etc? Assuming Romney and his fellow corporatists succeed in privatizing everything like they want to, do the anti tax people still believe they would be paying no taxes? Do you think it’s better to buy these services individually, rather than pay your taxes and have your government provide them for you?

If you’re not sure what will happen if this comes to pass, just take a look back at what our privatized healthcare system used to cost us before Obamacare’s semi privatized system came into existence. We paid through our noses in premiums and our healthcare was the costliest in the whole world. This was in addition to those who couldn’t afford the insurance premiums being denied care and dying from their illness.

Imagine that you have to pay levies to a private police force to get policing done for you. Imagine that you have to pay a levy to a private emergency management agency to get help during a natural disaster. Imagine that you have to pay a private army for defense purposes if our country is attacked. Remember, while imagining all these, what happens if you don’t pay your insurance premiums, as that will give you an idea of what will happen if you default on any of the levies and need any of the services.

Do you think any of these scenarios is far fetched? Well, know that fire departments in certain parts of the United States of America are already watching citizens’ homes burn down because such citizens did not pay their fire levies. This is in the USA and not Zumunda. Do you still think the scenarios are far fetched?
