Failed banking system

My husband joined the Navy toward the end of Vietnam and served his country faithfully.  In August of 2011, we discovered that he had an enormous brain tumor.  He was having trouble keeping a job, his behavior had changed, his hands shook and he didn’t always know where his feet were because he was having seizures and we didn’t know.  Luckily the VA hospital took pretty good care of him, but in the recovery room after everything was checking out well … he had a substantial seizure and was paralyzed on the entire right side.  We were looking at a year of recovery and no income.  Getting disability for him is one dead end after another.  “He can go be a greeter at Walmart” they said.

The bank (whose name I’m no longer allowed to mention) kept me busy trying to apply for a mortgage modification – four times they turned us down and during the last application put us into foreclosure when they had promised not to do that.

On March 15 of this year – they gave us 30 days to vacate our home.

Now – I could have paid them something, but they wanted it all.  And now I’m in a position to pay more, but that’s beside the point as far as they are concerned.

During this year and a half, we have lived below the poverty level, had to have food stamps to eat.  But now my business is doing so well that we are off of food stamps and getting ready to move into a house that will cost $300 more per month than our mortgage payment was.  The bank spent over $7,000 on attorney fees – per month – to take us out.

Where is the sense in any of this?  We paid faithfully on our mortgage for 21 years – an illness has put us out of our home.  The bank could have easily put the arrears on the end of the mortgage.  My business is growing!  I will have a nationally recognized label in a handcrafted artisan product.  Today I received an inquiry from Safeway stores in California.

But – when I was forced to sign the paperwork to agree to abandon our home, the verbiage was added that I could not mention the name of the bank, nor seek legal means to bring them to justice.  Much like our dear Monsanto monsters.

We are sick of all the lies and liars – Mexico is looking good as a place to retire.  I hear they are against GMO food – good.

You should change the name of this country from the United States of America to the United States of Corporations without common sense.  President Obama – I voted for you twice and now I’ve seen what ‘they’ have done to you.  Your lovely passions to do the right thing and your inspirational speeches are lost in the wind.  I actually feel sorry for you, because I can easily see that you have been shown that you have no real power – just like old ‘W’ had no real power.  It is a shameful state – and I can see it on your face and hear it in your voice.  You have been threatened – I don’t doubt it.  I used to be an idealist and was raised as a patriotic girl – daughter of a wonderful family.  Now that has been replaced by cynicism and disgust.  Please be safe and retire well taken care of – it’s the best you can hope for.

I fought for you.
