The unrest in Egypt has claimed over 300 lives and seen over 2,000 others injured, with world leaders calling for an end to the violence. The chaotic situation has also prompted the resignation of Vice President Mohamed Elbaradei after expressing dismay at the use of force, instead of a negotiated end to the six week stand-off. The crackdown on Wednesday defied western appeals for restraint and a peaceful, negotiated settlement to Egypt’s political crisis following the military’s removal of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July
