Democrats and Republicans playing political tit for tat is a political ill wind for Americans.

Democrats are doing to Trump exactly the same thing Republicans did to Obama, or even worse. They’re criticizing everything he does or doesn’t do as a way to score cheap political points, and that is making them look and sound ridiculous much of the time. A poll taken of Americans a few weeks ago found that most people say they don’t know what Democrats stand for except blind opposition to President Trump, and this must be why.

A current example is Michael Moore who tried to score a cheap political point by stirring up a little controversy when he took to twitter to call on President Trump to open up his Mar a Lago resort for hurricane Irma victims. Mr Moore was so bent on scoring the cheap point that he either ignored or forgot that Mar a Lago was also under an evacuation mandate as it was in the direct path of the hurricane.

In fact, before Mr Moore’s tweet, twitter and other social media had been filled with tweets and posts from Democrats and other so called progressives wishing and hoping that Mar a Lago be destroyed by the hurricane in the lead up to Irma making landfall. A very mean wish to make, though incredibly petty, but it was made nonetheless.

How an obviously intelligent person like Michael could forget all of that and make his twitter call can only be explained by him, but that’s part of the point I’m trying to make which is that when you’re so intent on criticizing, you’re very likely to be blinded and make a fool of yourself by rushing to criticize things you shouldn’t.

While the Democrats didn’t have their own meeting where they resolved to make sure Trump fails, like the Republicans did, at least, not publicly, all their actions have left no fair minded person in any doubt that they’re very actively working towards the same goal. In fact, they’re going to lengths that Republicans could only imagine reaching with former President Obama, in order to sabotage President Trump, and that’s where I disagree with them.

Trump is definitely not a perfect person or president. Far from it, but he is also definitely not the devil the Democrats are doing everything they can to make him out to be. In conjunction with the media they own and control, the Democrats are boldly crossing new lines in the act of sabotage of a president.

Obama was not the devil the Republicans worked to make him out to be while he was in office, either, but that’s the point. The political leaders of this country are allowing politics to interfer in our government, and that is never going to bode well for the progress of this country.

The sad thing is that many of the followers in both political parties condone this pattern. You hear arguments by Democrats to the effect that Republicans did the same thing with former President Obama so it’s okay for Democrats to take it even further with President Trump who is a Republican. There was a time when I thought the Democrats were the bigger people, but what has been going on since the election of Trump has me rethinking.

If anything, it’s looking like the Democrats are even smaller than the Republicans because they have gone beyond being the party of no into areas one can only describe as treasonable sabotage of a president.

The problem with this political tit for tat is that the whole country suffers as a result because no progress can be made when all the party which lost the election does for the tenure of the winning party is to work to make sure the elected president does not succeed. America’s system of democracy with all the checks and balances built into it makes it possible for such an opposition party to be able to stifle the ruling party if it so wishes.

Coupled with the fact that the Democratic party establishment seem to have almost total control of the mainstream media apparatuses, the new president seems to have no hiding place from the incessant attacks on him and his actions. During former President Obama’s time in office, only Fox News was the mainstream media outfit that treated him with the venom President Trump is getting today. The other media outfits that treated him that way were obscure and regional outfits.

Today, CNN, MSNBC and their parent company NBC, NPR and all the major newspaper and magazine outfits have this anti Trump vendetta going on, and even positive stories about him are given a negative tint or connotation when such stories would be covered at all. Most times, positive stories about the man are ignored or hidden away in obscure columns as a tactic to continue the negativity towards him.

Recently, during the Hurricane Harvey catastrophe in Texas, the story all over the mainstream media was about how the president and the first lady were dressed “inappropriately” during their visit to Houston. Every news story that came out about that visit was one of criticism of one thing or another that the president or first lady said or did, and none was about the significance of the visit with victims of the disaster by the president. There were even stories about how much his administration would give Houston disregarding the fact that any help Houston will get from the federal government will have to come from Congress and not the president.

But Trump had to be criticized so someone made up the story about how much he would give to Houston. Even when the president announced that he would give one million dollars of his personal money to the relief fund for the victims, the stories about that donation on the mainstream media was about whether he would really give the money, how or when he would give the money, and how he has always been a conman. None of the stories was about giving credit to the man for making a humane gesture that he was under no obligation to make.

Like I used to say of Fox News and Republicans under former President Obama, Trump could announce that he has discovered the cure for cancer and was giving it out for free, and the mainstream media and Democrats would criticize him for harming cancer. That’s how bad it has become, and if you haven’t figured that out, yet, you need to start paying closer attention because we’re all suffering from the results.
