According to the National Welfare Fund of Russia, the living standard in Russia is inexorably declining. The treasury is becoming empty and sanctions, despite of the government’s attempts to prove the contrary, make tangible stroke both on minds and purses of average citizens. Furthermore, anticipations for the near future are unpromising as well– according to the experts, Reserve Fund in 2017 will be outspent. Well, the time is coming when the authorities can do nothing but appeal to those feelings of Russian that do not require material boosting and reckon on manipulations which may keep Putin’s rating afloat for a little more.
In such situation the Kremlin finds nothing better than declaring exceptionality of Russia, particularly in terms of its territory. Russian leader still adheres to the idea of world dominancy and renewal of former imperial power. Such statements come from time to time from his associates. For instance, Russian biker and Putin’s friend Aleksandr Zaldostanov, known under the name of “Surgeon” addressed President with a request to restore the elements of symbols of Soviet and Imperial periods within Russian National symbols in order to highlight the idea of succession and increase state’s magnitude. Is there any use in discussing the relevance of such changes given that the only idea of combining Imperial and Soviet symbolic on contemporary state symbol of the Russian Federation seems to be oddly enough?
And that is not the only example of losing grasp on reality by a close Putin’s friend. In his another statement Zaldostanov compared Putin’s address to Federal Assembly with Gospel according to St. Matthew while calling Putin “the Russian Tsar” and “the Lord’s Anointed”. Careful planning and a “well-timed” use of such statements is alerting and should induce some reflections as, despite of their irrationality they reflect actual situation in Russia. Putin really behaves as a monarch, putting one to death and dispensing other royal mercy, subjugating the whole state investigative and penal bodies. One of the recent victims crushed by the wheels of imperial machine is the ex-minister of economic development A. Uliukaiev, who has been exposed to “demonstrative belting” carried out in conformity with the best traditions, featuring both the fools and the dumb bunnies.
However, the danger of Putin’s intentions lies in their focusing beyond the internal affairs. Either for a joke or in good earnest the President, congratulating one of the winners at the awarding ceremony of the Russian geographic society, dumbfounded a nine-years-old schoolboy with a question, “Where does the Russia’s border end?” Having interrupted the boy, who had correctly replied to a question as he was taught in school, he answered his own question with a triumphant air: “Russia has no borders!”
Russian leader’s statements about Russia’s “greatness” are accompanied with astonishing self-assurance. In this regard one should mention that there are no limits of impudence of Russian authorities rather than borders of Russian state. Cynicism of such statements gives the whole civilized world a handle to consider whether this jest has a true word. Perhaps, that is not a jest at all…
Currently Putin behaves as an insolent hooligan who is waiting for response to his impudent actions and keeps increasingly provoking the whole world. The more shocking his statements appears, the more clutched becomes the world waiting for his further actions. Such wait-and-see attitude just lets off the leash to keep hooligan going in his tricks.
Well, what comes next? Next come further expectations of what will this clink-clank end up with, and deep disturbance of European politicians in response to the Kremlin’s intimidation of placing “Iskanders” in Kaliningrad or delivering a rocket strike in response to Ukraine’s military maneuvers on its own territory. Such intimidations of Russia once again confirm that “borders” for Kremlin are conventional, they may be neglected when a question pertains to the imperial interests, and temptation to keep walking on the razor’s edge defying neighbors’ patience will prevail over rational mind, clouded with a desire to make Russia an attraction center of the whole world.
