Indonesia, Residents of RW 03 Pasar Manggis Urban Village appreciated Jakarta Provincial Government for providing free WiFi or JakWIFI to support children in doing distance learning.
The program initiated by Jakarta Provincial Government through Kominfo Agency was launched to facilitate students during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Novi (25), one of the local residents assessed, this free WiFi facility is very useful for her children in doing online learning.
“It is very useful, especially for us who rarely have data plan. So, every morning, we must go to RW secretariat office to study. Because many of us use the network, sometimes the signal is unstable. It is understandable since this facility is free. But we hope the network could be better,” she said.
Similarly with Novi, RW 03 Chairman Haris Gunawan also thanked the city government for providing free WiFi to its residents.
“Thank you for the availability of free WiFi,” he said.
Even so, he expressed, there are a few obstacles in terms of implementing health protocols amid the pandemic, as gathering is prohibited.
“Actually, yesterday we wanted to invite residents to the community hall to study online but it’s impossible as we have to maintain physical distancing and of course this is difficult. We decided for them to study at home but it won’t be optimal due to weak Internet signal. Moreover we live in a densely populated area. Hopefully, in the future, the signal can be further improved,” he explained.
“If the citizens need WiFi, then they must go to RW secretariat office. But, as I mentioned before, we have problem with health protocol, that is 3M,” he stated.
According to him, the problem tells that the free WiFi is enthusiastically needed by the citizens.
“Their interest is so high. People are still complaining about weak signal, but I think there is misperception there. Free WiFi does not mean they get connection at their house. There are people use their own WiFi connection and some use the free WiFi,” he added.
“This free WiFi is provided for those who needed and the mayor said that this connection is for students. We don’t share the password to everyone, and we also set the operational hour from 7 AM to 4 PM only. If there is problem with the connection, I think it’s understandably since everything should not goes perfectly,” he closed. / TIMPedia/IND
