Wow, it is estimated that in 2035 there will be a surge in the “Booming Elderly” generation, according to the current data that the elderly occupy a percentage of 8 percent of Indonesia’s population of 23.4 million people and a problem now is Indonesia’s attention to the welfare of the elderly at position 74 from 90 countries.

During the working visit of Committee 3 which consisted of Afnan Hadikusumo, senator of Joyjakarta, along with other members such as Dr. Abdul Aziz Khafia (Jakarta Senator), KH Ahmad Sadeli Karim to Emilia Contessa, visited the Tresna Wredha Budi Luhur Social Institution in the Kasongan Bantul area.

Afnan Hadikusumo revealed the unique condition of DIY to be divested by Committee 3 of the DPD to revise the Elderly Development legislation. According to him, the guidance of the elderly must be immediately discussed and protected in the form of a legal umbrella before the upcoming 2035.

“The current trend is that people don’t care about their parents because they are judged by low productivity. Even though in 2025 Indonesia will have many elderly people as a baby boom effect that was born in the 70s and 80s. This is what then motivates the DPD to draft the Elderly Development Bill, “he said after an input net with the DIY Regional Government.

Meanwhile, Dr. Abdul Azis said that in the future there must be protection for the elderly, and this must be supported by all parties because every citizen will be elderly in time.

“I think all of us here and other generations will be elderly in time, now in the future our country must protect the elderly, protection both from the social level and other levels,” said Bang Azis Wednesday, March 21, 2019.

With the problem of the elderly, it underlies the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia. Committee 3 initiated the Draft Revised Law on Elderly Development Guidance number 13 in 1998.
