An influential Polish politician Jaroslaw Kaczynski continues to stir the European public with his controversial actions and eccentric statements. This time, his resonance amendments to the Polish laws on Mass Media and the Constitutional Court are on the substantive agenda.

Many people now directly accuse the leader of Law and Justice party in a deliberate escalation of internal political conflict and offer various versions about the reasons of these processes.

For example, the Polish Wyborcza claims that intensification of contradictions on the Constitutional Court reform were initiated directly by Jaroslaw Kaczynski. According to the newspaper, this politician intentionally created visibility of war between local political groups to play himself a role of ‘peacekeeper’ in this game winning thus some additional political points.

“The electorate will believe that there’s a competition, a struggle, while the head of party himself is just trying to put fires out”, said the correspondent of Gazeta Wyborcza Katarzyna Kolenda-Zaleska.

Another version tells that Kaczynski’s reforms being unpopular both in Poland and the EU are aimed at minimizing Brussels impact on Warsaw and providing thus Jaroslaw with supreme seat of power closely bordering with a mild form of dictatorship.

Predominantly this theory is supported by the Polish oppositional politicians that in turn argue that Germany has already called for sanctions against Poland.

“We must find courage for sanctions if the fact of the European values violation is confirmed”, said the head of the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union Volker Kauder commenting on new laws on Mass Media and the Constitutional Court in Poland.

However, recently there has appeared another version of the ‘phenomenon’ of Jaroslaw Kaczynski that deserves close attention. First of all, it is interesting as it affects personal aspects of the Kaczynski family. Obviously, that’s why this version stays unpopular in political circles of Poland.

Well, this is a publication of sensational documents revealing genetic examination of the remains of Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s brother. According to further information, the former president of Poland Lech Kaczynski (died in a plane crash near Smolensk, 2010) suffered from a rare genetic disorder – fragile X chromosome – which is usually accompanied by significant defects in intellectual development.

The hereditary nature of the disease suggests that Jaroslaw Kaczynski suffers from the same malady as his dead brother. This fact could well explain that strangeness in recent behavior of the leader of the Law and Justice party, moreover could finally put an end to those endless debates on his ‘political gambits’ and ‘cunning plans’.

Whatever it is, anyway, these days, Poland faces a number of much more important challenges than analysis of causal link between the activities of Mr. Kaczynski. Violation of basic principles of democracy and possible international isolation, that’s what should worry Polish society and Polish politicians first of all.
