Military parade in Moscow: the triumph of cynicism

On May 9, 2020 the military parade to tribute the 75th anniversary of victory in World War II is going to take place in Moscow. But even now it is obvious that it would be not the celebration of the victory over Nazism and honoring the veterans of World War II, but the celebration of vanity of Putin’s regime. The irony is that current Russian regime has all the features of those regimes, the victory over which is going to be celebrated in Moscow.

Long time before this day, propaganda agiotage is being boosted in anticipation of high guests to come to Moscow and this can be represented as the end of international isolation of Russia and full recognition of USSR and Russia’s (as USSR successor) participation in the victory over Nazi Germany. The invitations were sent to world leaders, including French president E. Macron and US president D. Trump (Macron has already accepted the invitation). It remains unknown, who will also accept this offer from Putin.

Therefore, the world leaders are expected to come to Moscow, though the recent sanctions imposed further to the Kremlin tryouts to break trans-atlantic partnership using energy projects and the sanctions as a response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Besides, it is worth taking in mind what happens in Syrian region Idlib right now. According to the UN representatives, for the last 2 months approximately 800 thousands people have been displaced from their homes following massive and brutal air strikes by Russian Military Air Forces. The life in a region totally destroyed by the long-time war is almost collapsed and according to Al Jazeera correspondents David Suber and Roshan De Stone, many civilians (even children) died as a result of low temperatures and lack of any medical care.

According to Dr. Munzer Khalil, the person responsible for medical care in the part of Idlib out of control of Syrian government “as soon as we establish even small medical care unit or hospital, it immediately becomes target for Russian and government forces”.

It is confirmed by the information, collected by non-governmental organization “Syrian observatory for human rights”, which informed international society about high-accurate air strikes of Russian jets, aimed to destroy hospitals and crowds of refugees, desperately trying to exit Idlib and enter the territory of Turkey.

The current actions of Russia in Syria let us compare them to the moments of World War II. We can remember Luftwaffe air strikes which burn out the streets of London, set on fire English city of Coventry, and caused numerous victims among civilians during Blitzkrieg.

Extremely atrocious and barbaric chemical attack of Syrian government supported by Russian forces against civilians in Syrian Duma city makes us remember chemical attacks against Ethiopian unarmed civilians undertaken by Italian regime of Mussolini during the Second Italo-Ethiopian War.

Infinite number of such facts can be mentioned and they make us realize that Putin’s regime is not the heir of the country which defeated Nazi regime, but rather its successor.

Harsh violations of international law, invasions to the other countries’ territories, desire to change the world’s map – that is the real policy of Russia.

What Russia is going to celebrate on May 9? What is the sense for world leaders to be presented in the parade of celebration the victory over what is growing up in Russia now?
