Understanding the Dangerous Myths Around Suicide

There are many myths surrounding suicide. Some are harmless. Yet, some myths are dangerous because they prevent people from recognizing that friends or family are thinking about ending their lives. Believing some of these myths can also prevent someone who is thinking of suicide from getting the help they need.

In 2018, there were an estimated 1.4 million suicide attempts in the United States. In 2019 8.9% of high school students attempted suicide. Suicide has become the 10 overall cause of death for all ages and the number two cause of death for teens and adolescents. While we are still waiting for all the information to be compiled, it appears that the pandemic has only made things worse.
